Fuck Yeah, Cleveland!

This weekend, the Indians averaged 10.7 runs per game. Last season the Browns averaged 13.7 points per game.

Poor, poor Browns.

But, hey, it’s Tribe time now. IT’S TRIBE TIME NOW!

I’ve been out of school and working, thus a severe lack of updates. I have, however, been keeping up on all things Cleveland sports, promise!

Here’s some news, if you haven’t already heard it:

• The Cavs drafted Duke PG Kyrie Irving at 1 overall, and Texas PF Tristian Thompson at 4th. I approve.
• The Indians recalled their number one prospect, 3B Lonnie Chisenhall, from AAA Columbus yesterday. His debut went smoothly, to put it lightly. Against Arizona, Chisenhall went 2 for 4 with a double and the game winning RBI. Not too shabby.
• BUT… The Tribe have been kinda sucky lately. They’ve fallen one game behind Detroit in the AL Central, but according to MLB sources, GM Chris Antonetti has been burning up the phone lines looking to pick up a big bat in a trade. Good news.
• SHIN SOO CHOO! OH NO! Choo broke his left thumb when he was hit by a pitch in San Francisco. He had surgery today, and is expected to be out 8 to 10 weeks. If we’re still in a pennant race, he’d be back in time for the September push.

I’ll try to update at least once a week! Have a great 4th of July weekend if I don’t post until after!

Just kidding, but as Tony Rizzo from ESPN Cleveland (AM 850) said, the national media is probably hoping for a collapse, just so they can once again show the Drive, the Fumble and Jose Mesa clip montage.

Still the best in baseball, and they’ll more likely than not be in the AL Central race down the stretch in September.

Oh, and Asdrubal Cabrera had 5 hits, 2 HR and 5 RBI today, no big deal.

News:

Jeanmar Gomez back to AAA to make room for Carlos Carrasco, who was on the DL. This means that Alex White, who got his first MLB win in LA, stays on the roster to pitch another day.

The Indians came back from the West Coast with a 3-3 record, not too shabby considering they spent six days facing the toughest pitching in the big leagues.

Cleveland will have a six-game home stand starting tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays.

By the way, that 21-9 record is the 9th time that this has happened. Other seasons? 1916, 1920, 1941, 1948, 1966, 1995, 1999, 2001.

What happened in those seasons? Let’s find out:

1916: 77-77

1920: 98-56, won World Series

1941: 75-79

1948: 97-58, won World Series

1966: 81-81

1995: 100-44, lost World Series

1999: 97-65, lost ALDS

2001: 91-71, lost ALDS

So, in my EXTREMELY homer opinion, the trend is go .500, win a WS. Therefore, because we haven’t won the World Series since ‘48, we have to before the next 21-9 start results in a .500 season.

So: WE WIN THE WORLD SERIES THIS YEAR, YAY!

Tied for the best start in franchise history through 30 games? I’ll take it!

The Indians, facing the best pitching in baseball, showed what they could do when runs are at a premium by taking two-of-three from the Oakland Athletics, with a score differential of only +2 over the three game series.

The starting pitching, on both sides, was phenomenal. Carmona, Tomlin and even Jeanmar Gomez threw solid games this week, which was essential when facing Oakland’s pitching staff.

Both wins came at the last at bat, continuing the late-game hitting trend started in the series versus Detroit last week.

This is the first series win in Oakland for Cleveland since 2002.

Next up: The LA Angels. Another tough pitching match-up. Masterson, White and Carmona will face Chatwood, Weaver and Haren.

The games are on 10:00 tonight, 9:00 Saturday and 3:35 on Sunday.

Well, Shin-Soo Choo started an interesting run for the All-Star Game last night by being charged with a DUI.

According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Choo asked the officers for directions to his house and was arrested after he began driving away. Choo blew a 0.20.

Two walk off wins and an 8th inning come-from-behind victory? Yes, please.

Another series, another sweep, so it seems. The Indians have already swept five series, one more than their total in the 2010 season. And after the best April in Tribe history, the media is starting to take notice and admit that this maybe isn’t a fluke.

The Indians are on fire right now, and according to closer Chris Perez, this is “better than Major League.” Alex White had a good debut on Saturday, while Gomez and Masterson both gave up runs early, but were able to get out of tough situations.

The hitting has come from everywhere in the lineup, no single hitter carries the weight of the whole team on his shoulders. This is a team that truly works together, and nobody lags behind.

Carlos Santana, who was slumping for weeks earlier, had three straight HRs from Thursday to Saturday, including a walk off grand slam on Friday.

Choo, who was in a similar situation, also seems to have turned it around.

Travis Hafner, who is amid a resurgence, has been out with a tendon strain in his foot. And, according to skipper Manny Acta, the DL is not out of the question. Blerg.

Well, we’re on the west coast this week, meaning plenty of 10:00pm starts. The Wahoos play the A’s for three days starting Tuesday before taking on the Angels and heading home.

I know it’s too early to talk playoffs, but our division sucks this season. GO TRIBE!
